What is the Tom Barrow Brugada Trust?
Tom Barrow died of a little known heart condition called Brugada Syndrome in November 2023. Tom was a father of three young boys and happily married to Anna. He was 38 years of age. His death was sudden, unexpected and traumatic. The cause of death was identified as Brugada Syndrome, a recently recognised heart condition which sees the fatal disruption of normal heart functioning.
Little is known about this syndrome, named after the initial research conducted by Professor Brugada in Spain. It’s a condition that seems to affect young people, especially men under the age of 40.
Without early diagnosis, it generally results in death.
What do we aim to do?
Our aim is to raise funds to support research into this terrifying condition.
There is no dedicated research unit in Wales and we would like to see one established. We have made contact with two medical professors in the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff who have given the trustees their support.
They are conducting their own research, often in their own time and using their own resources. We want to be able to fund them, and others, so that we can better understand this syndrome and find a cure.
